====== Father of Flies ====== //A character from the Blood Opera series. Information on this page is public domain, but linked information might not be.// ===== Origin and Abilities ===== A victim of ritual gone horribly wrong, the Father of Flies was an occultist who sought to contact a god from an ancient Mesopotamian pantheon. He failed to properly protect his blood sacrifices from flies. When the ritual was completed, the god he had hoped to bind himself to wasn’t there- in its place was Beelzebub, Lord of Flies, who he now serves. The original reason for the Father’s attempted ritual is currently unknown. The Father’s monstrous form is a projection, twisted and warped by his servitude. His actual body is bound with chains in an unmarked grave, preserved in perpetuity. It’s said that if anyone finds his body, they’ll be able to release- or control- him. The Father cannot speak, but has a limited form of telepathy. When the flies under his control eat flesh, they taste the souls of their victims- relaying the victim’s memories and thoughts to their Father. In his service to Beelzebub, the Father currently acts as a kind of cruel interrogator. His flies eat the flesh of people with information needed by cults who have called on his master. In this way, he acts as the eyes and ears of his master. ===== Relationship with Humanity ===== The Father is caught in a perpetual struggle: having his flies feast on human flesh lets him see the loves, hopes, and fears of his victims. With his own memories almost gone, the victims of the Father have become his only tether to humanity. Unfortunately, between the traumatic deaths of many of his victims and the large number of animals eaten by his flies, the Father has only become more bestial with the passage of time. While he’s already beyond redemption, whatever humanity is left will soon flicker out. As part of his punishment, the Father isn't allowed to sleep. Instead, he relives the memories of his most recent victims. ====== Defining Polls ====== 1:2 Bonus question: The mythos monster that is hunting us is the soul of a cultist who saw the face of ineffable evil. While the cultist still has a passing resemblance to their old self, their appearance has been warped by their servitude to the dread masters. What does the ghost look like? This is an open ended question. We’ll amalgamate as many of the responses as we can. The resulting monster will be public domain.
